MA(Cantab) Double First in Law
Elwen Evans is one of Wales’ leading criminal silks. According to Chambers UK Guide for the Legal Profession she ‘sets a fine example for the rest of her set. Involved in murders, sexual offences and drug importation cases, she is “veritably a woman for all seasons” who “conjures up excellent results on a regular basis”’.
Elwen Evans has a double first in law from Girton College, Cambridge. She was awarded Senior scholarships from both Girton College and Cambridge University. Whilst studying for the Bar, she was awarded a number of scholarships including the Gray’s Inn Senior, Mould, Cynthia Terry and Lord Justice Holker awards.
Her practice has built up at Iscoed over 25 years (the last 6 in silk) and she is frequently instructed for both defence and prosecution in very serious and complex criminal matters. Elwen is a Welsh speaker and conducts case in the Welsh Language – she defended recently in Caernarfon Crown Court where the first case was conducted entirely in Welsh. She is a Recorder.
She is accepts instruction in public law Child Care cases.
Elwen was appointed Head of Chambers in 2003 and now continues as Joint Head with Paul Thomas QC. She has led Iscoed successfully through a period of significant change for the set and for the profession as a whole.
