Ian Wright is a specialist criminal practitioner with many years of experience in dealing with cases involving serious criminal offences. He acts for both the prosecution and the defence. He is continually instructed in serious, sensitive and high profile cases.

Ian graduated from University of Wales, Aberystwyth and was awarded a Middle Temple scholarship before joining Iscoed Chambers as a pupil in 1994.

Ian is vastly experienced in dealing with cases involving homicide, rape and serious sexual offences, fraud and serious drugs conspiracies.

Ian has been a Grade 4 prosecutor for many years. He is also a member of the Crown Prosecution Service approved list for the prosecution of rape and serious sexual offences. He has regularly appeared as junior counsel in high profile murder trials for the prosecution and defence. Ian has also defended in police disciplinary proceedings.

Ian has developed a specialism in cases involving explosive substances.

Examples of Ian’s recent work include:

R v HJ - Prosecution of 5 defendants in a case where a man was murdered and attempts were made to dispose of the body using a cremation pit.

R v H – Led the prosecution of a retired psychiatrist in respect of historic allegations of sexual abuse of his patients.

Operation Montana - Prosecution of defendants involved in human trafficking of Iranian nationals into the United Kingdom.

Operation Blue Thames – Prosecution of 51 defendants for drug trafficking offences arising from an extensive test purchase operation conducted in Swansea.

Operation Regent – Led the prosecution of 22 defendants for conspiracy to supply class A drugs into Mid Wales from Liverpool, with a street value in excess of one million pounds.

R v P - Defence of a nurse charged with stealing medication from GP practices.

R v N – Defence of a driving instructor charged with sexually assaulting one of his customers.

 

R v J – Defence of a police officer charged with perverting the course of public justice.
