Rachel Anthony

Rachel Anthony offers a friendly, professional and capable service as a civil practitioner.

Rachel’s Landlord and Tenant practice has grown considerably over recent years, acting for both Claimant and Defendant. She is now experienced in all aspects of residential landlord and tenant litigation and is instructed by a wide range of solicitors, e.g. Shelter, as well as Local Authorities. Rachel is also regularly instructed in disputes arising from business tenancies by a wide range of agencies but including solicitors acting for publicans and Local Authorities. Rachel has also appeared in cases concerning eviction of travellers.

As a member of APIL, Rachel’s work in the field of personal injury is predominantly Claimant work. She accepts instructions on a CFA basis, and there is no fee for the consideration of papers. Instructions for paperwork usually have a turnaround of seven days or less. Rachel is experienced at both fast track and multi track levels.
Contractual disputes form another aspect to Rachel’s practice, and she again has experience of conducting litigation at both fast and multi –track level in this area. She is also well versed in disputes involving builders.

Rachel is regularly instructed where mental illness is a feature of the litigation. Having worked as a mental health advocate(both in-patient and community) prior to pupillage, Rachel is a sympathetic and experienced advocate in this field. She is instructed both where mental illness is the prominent feature of the litigation (e.g. proceedings within hospitals, applications to the County Court in respect of patients) as well as where mental illness is said to be the cause of the behaviour which is the subject matter of the litigation (e.g. anti- social behaviour in landlord and tenant disputes.) Rachel has had conduct of such matters from individuals (via the Official Solicitor where appropriate) and from the Local Authority.

Rachel is keen to develop expertise in the field of insolvency and receives increasingly complex instructions in this area.

Aside from the County Court and High Court, Rachel regularly appears in the Coroner’s Court, usually on behalf of the family of the deceased. She also appears in the Magistrates’ Court and Crown Court and has previously prosecuted for Local Authority and other bodies,e.g. DEFRA. She has also appeared for the Local Authority in applications arising from anti social behaviour.
