Avril joined Iscoed Chambers in September 2005 following many years in professional practices in South Wales. She qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1985 and has advised many businesses at start-up and throughout periods of rapid growth. Her accountancy qualification has become very beneficial for members of Chambers who are all impressed by the advice given on tax, VAT and other financial issues.

Her main role, however, is the management of staff, buildings, technology and promotion of Chambers. “This wide ranging role means that 2 working days are never the same – one day could include tasks as varied as conducting staff appraisals, arranging building repairs, talking to junior tenants about development of their practices”

The challenges for the Bar over the next few years have meant that a professional manager has become an essential commodity at Chambers. “The Chambers’ Director role allows the clerks to concentrate on promoting and organising the work of individual counsel without getting involved in all the other management issues” commented joint Head of Chambers, Elwen Evans QC. “We are very fortunate to have found such a capable manager as Avril – she has developed into the role over the last couple of years and is now a significant asset for Chambers.”
