Sam was called to the Bar in October 2021 and joined Iscoed Chambers as a Tenant in October 2025. He completed the Bar Professional Training Course at Cardiff University earning a Very Competent grade, alongside a Masters in Law. He studied his Law degree at Cardiff University with First Class Honours. During his time at Cardiff University, he competed in Mooting Competitions, winning the Cardiff University Mooting Competition in 2018 and represented Cardiff in the ESU-Essex Court Chambers National Mooting Competition in 2019. He further undertook pro bono work with the charity Mencap, drafting legal toolkits for the guardians and carers of those with learning disabilities. Sam was born in Chicago, Illinois but was raised in South Wales near Pontypridd and went to Bryn Celynnog Comprehensive School.
Prior to joining Chambers, Sam worked as a paralegal for a personal injury firm in Cardiff where he dealt with liability disputes in road traffic accidents. He also worked as a Solicitor’s Agent, accepting instructions in the County Court and representing clients in small claims trials and housing matters across Wales and South West England.
Sam completed pupillage under the supervision of Victoria Thomas (Family and Civil), Catherine Collins (Civil) and Thomas Scapens (Crime). In his first-six, he obtained an interest in private family law and matrimonial finance matters. During his second-six, he has developed a crime practice and built upon his existing civil experience by advising on and drafting pleadings and civil applications.
Civil
Sam has been instructed to advise and represent clients in respect of housing matters involving the Renting Homes (Wales) Act 2016. He has also appeared in credit hire, road traffic accident and personal injury matters. He has a keen interest in contract law, and as a pupil he gained experience in cohabitee disputes arising out of the Trusts of Land and Appointment of Trustees Act 1996.
Crime
Sam is a CPS Grade 1 Prosecutor and has accepted instructions to both prosecute and defend in the Crown Court and Magistrates Court. During his first six, Sam underwent training with the Inns of Court College of Advocacy in relation to working with youth defendants.
Family
Sam gained experience in private family law and matrimonial finance matters during his pupillage. This includes assisting with the drafting of a successful appeal against a decision in the County Court.
