Gareth Waite

Barrister

Gareth was called to the Bar in 2008 and admitted as a Solicitor in 2016. He has previously worked at national law firms where he specialised in civil litigation and personal injury. Gareth has experience in management having worked as a manager in previous employment. He has also undertaken a secondment as a consultant / in-house counsel at a large international law firm, assisting with claims brought within the financial services and disputes sector.  

Given his significant experience of working within large law firms, Gareth is well adept with the importance of prioritisation of work and organisation. 

He represents either claimants or defendants in all areas of Civil Law, Personal Injury, Employment and Regulatory / Professional Discipline. He is also registered to accept instructions under the Public Access Scheme and is a Civil Mediation Council Qualified Mediator.

Gareth will travel to courts and tribunals nationwide.  

Civil Law

Gareth has extensive knowledge of mixed civil litigation and accepts instructions in a variety of civil law hearings, including trial, on interim applications, in directions, costs and case management, dispute and alternative dispute resolution hearings.

He also has previous experience of representing clients at an inquest and an Education Workforce Council final hearing. 

Retail Banking, Regulated Lending and Financial Services

Gareth has significant experience in the financial services sector, having undertaken a secondment within an international law firm as a consultant / in-house counsel, assisting in defended claims brought against banks / financial institutions under s.140A of the Consumer Credit Act 1974 (unfair relationships).  

Personal Injury

Gareth has practiced in Personal Injury since 2008. He is instructed in claims arising out of road traffic accidents, occupiers’ liability, public liability, disease, product liability, employers’ liability, and the Highways Act. He is also instructed in claims arising from accidents and injuries abroad which are brought under the Package Travel Regulations. 

Gareth also represented a claimant in one of Wales’ first remote multi-track personal injury trials during the COVID-19 lockdown and was successful. The news article can be read here. 

Employment

Gareth accepts instructions to represent Claimants or Respondents in the Employment Tribunal. He also provides opinion and advice on proceedings. 

Mediation

Gareth is a qualified mediator having undertaken training accredited by the Civil Mediation Council. He can accept instructions to mediate in all aspects of civil law and attend mediations as counsel on behalf of claimants and defendants. 

Crime

Gareth has experience of prosecuting and defending matters in the Magistrates’ and Crown Courts. He is a member of the CPS Advocate Panel Scheme.

Outside of the Bar, Gareth enjoys music, theatre, and rugby.
