As we approach the run up to the Christmas period, Chambers provides the following update by way of recent news and developments over the last few months, including new members joining us.
New Tenants
Firstly, Chambers is delighted to confirm that Evie Howard and Stephen Davies have accepted offers of tenancy and now accepts instructions following the successful completion of their pupillages. We are incredibly proud of what they have accomplished and look forward to supporting them as they begin the next stage of their careers. The feedback received regarding both has been extremely pleasing. Evie and Stephen undertook mixed practice pupillages and accept instructions in a wide variety of Chambers' practice areas.
Full website profiles and CVs will be uploaded to Chambers' website in the coming weeks. For more information, and to instruct either Evie or Stephen, please contact the Clerks via telephone or email.
New Pupil
As well as new tenants, Chambers extends a warm welcome to Jack Furse who joins us as a pupil. Jack begins his pupillage under the supervision of Thomas Scapens and we wish him the very best on the commencement of his time with us. Prospective pupils can find details of how to apply for pupillage in 2027 on our website here.
Media-reported and successful cases
Various members of the Criminal team at Chambers have been involved in recent successes as well as cases at Swansea Crown Court which have attracted media attention from both local and Welsh/British media outlets:
- Samuel Jenkins recently secured a suspended sentence for his client, who had pleaded Guilty to offences of Grievous Bodily Harm with Intent ("Section 18 GBH") and Affray following an incident at the top of Swansea City Centre's Wind Street. Despite the severity of the offence, Sam's succinct and compelling mitigation resulted in the Defendant receiving a 3 year term of imprisonment which was suspended.
- Regan Walters recently prosecuted the sentence of a man who had racially harassed the Welsh Labour MP Henry Tufnell by affixing a threatening note to his constituency office and then brought an axe to a public house in Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire. This case has been reported by various outlets including BBC News, GB News, and WalesOnline.
- Harry Dickens prosecuted the trial and sentence of a woman from Whitland, Carmarthenshire who had defrauded her elderly mother by using her bank account for her own purchases and to transfer thousands of pounds into her own bank account. The Defendant was also for 5 years the attorney of her mother's affairs. Having denied any dishonesty, she was convicted following a week-long trial of 3 counts of Fraud by Abuse of Position. Proceedings under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002 are to follow. This case has also been reported by various outlets, including WalesOnline and the Western Telegraph.
Chambers and the Legal Community
Away from Court, members of Chambers have been at events across England and Wales and we are proud to remain committed to involvement with the legal community locally in Swansea and beyond. Catherine Collins, Harry Dickens, and our practice manager Sarah Early recently attended the Bar Council Pupillage Fair in London with the Wales & Chester Circuit, speaking to prospective pupils about life on Circuit and practice in Wales. George Pollitt was a member of a panel of speakers who were present to share their insight at the 'Celebrating 25 Years of National Pro Bono Week & Access to Justice in Wales' event, held at the University of South Wales. Chambers' members now look forward greatly to attending the Swansea & District Law Society Annual Dinner on 13 November 2026 at the Brangwyn Hall. We look forward to seeing colleagues there!
