Matthew Murphy was called to the Bar in 2024 and joined Iscoed Chamber as a tenant thereafter.  Matthew transferred to the Bar as a qualifying lawyer, having practised as a solicitor since 2012.  Matthew was born and raised in Carmarthenshire.  He attended Ysgol Y Gwendraeth, receiving a bi-lingual education.  From there, he attended Cardiff University and thereafter completed the Legal Practise Course at Swansea University.

For 12 years, Matthew practised as a solicitor in law firms across South and West Wales.  The majority of his time in practise was spent as a criminal defence solicitor.  He obtained Higher Rights of Audience in the Crown Court in 2020, and advocated in the Crown Court continuously from that point until his call to the Bar.  He has experience litigating and advocating in a wide variety of cases, including murder, fraud, drug conspiracies and serious sexual offences.
